Mascara Match // Benefit Bad Gal v Primark Volumising Ultra Black // Can Budget Beat High-End?

Hey guys!  You may remember one of my much older posts, Foundation Fight, where I pitched several different foundations against each other (excuse the crap photos, I’d only been blogging two months then!)  Well, I’ve been meaning to write a similar post for ages now, but this time about mascara.  Here comes….dun dun dunnnn…. Mascara Match!!  Today I’m pitting Primark Volumising Ultra Black against Benefit Bad Gal Lash!

I’ve thought to myself so many times that people need to know how great Primark mascaras are!  They’ve been really upping their game with makeup recently, but two of the mascaras I love have been around for a few years.  I’ve been so impressed with them that I buy them over and over.  Another huge contender, and cult mascara-maker, is Benefit – who hasn’t heard of Bad Gal, They’re Real or Rollerlash?  Nobody, that’s who!

I was originally going to write about six mascaras in this one post, but it got a lil out of hand and long!  So I’ve broken it into three parts – the next two will be coming shortly, so stay tuned! [Part 2 is here!]

Outfit of the Day (OOTD): Kimono, Flower Crown & Pink Lips!

Hi guys

As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t get to leave the house on a regular basis as I am chronically ill.  This means that on the occasions where I do leave the house (which is sadly mostly appointments haha!), I like to photograph my outfit of the day for the blog.  I’ve got to take the chances when I can get them.  I get very excited about wearing ‘real clothes’ as opposed to PJs!

Make Up Academy (MUA) Glitter Ball Eyeshadow Palette – Review and Makeup Look!

If you read this post, you will know that I recently picked up a new palette from MUA – their Glitter Ball Eyeshadow Palette. IMG_20150501_191304 It contains 12 eyeshadows, all with a very sparkly finish.  MUA say, “a spectacular collection of eyeshadows that will add sparkle to your eyes for ultimate impact”.  As with all MUA eyeshadows I’ve ever tried, these have great pigmentation and are lovely and buttery-smooth to the touch.  They apply easily and due to the good pigmentation, a little goes a long way. The palette covers a decent enough spectrum of colours, from a few light and pastel shades, to metallics, a couple of blues, greens and purples and a nice dark smoky black.  It also includes a double ended sponge applicator brush.  There is no mirror in the lid but that’s fine with me as I would rarely use that anyway.  I like being able to see through the clear plastic lid to see the colours – it makes it easier to find what I’m looking for! muastore_glitter-ball_2 I decided to put together an eye look with some of the shadows from this palette.  Now I’ll be totally honest and say I wasn’t actually very keen on the finished look… I decided to be a bit experimental with my colours but I don’t think they actually went too well together.  Nothing to do with the palette, it was all down to my colour choices!  But hey, if you don’t experiment, you never know!  Funnily enough, the day after I did this look, famous YouTuber and cosmetics producer Makeup Geek uploaded a YouTube video of a really similar colourway eye look called ‘Fire and Ice‘.  It made me laugh as I hadn’t been keen on the colours together but obviously I was onto something! IMG_20150511_180011            IMG_20150511_175909 I took Inferno (bronze) all over the lid and added the slightly darker Hustle into the crease and outer corners.  I lined my lower lash line with the bright greeny shadow, Vibe.  Finally, I added a slightly lighter blue (Freak) on the inner corners of my eye.  I finished off with my usual one coat of Primark Volumising Mascara and one coat of Primark False Lash Mascara. IMG_20150511_175552          IMG_20150511_175454         IMG_20150511_180308 I finished off the look, probably ill-advisedly, with yet more colour!!  I decided to give ombre lips a go, using a mid-toned pink all over the lips (I can’t remember which now, but any mid-pink will be fine).  I then dabbed dark purple lipstick into the inner edge of my lips.  I used a Sleek lipstick for this but really didn’t like it (bad texture and application) so in future I would use my MAC Up The Amp or MAC Heroine. IMG_20150511_175738 Not an eye look I will be recreating in future but it’s nice to have a play around once in a while and try new things! There are certainly many, many more looks I can create from this palette, so I will post any further ones I try.

Have you tried any new makeup looks lately?  What do you think of bright eyeshadow or ombre lips?  Let me know in the comments!

OOTD (Outfit of the Day) – Skulls, Bows & Bronze Eyes!

Happy Saturday guys & dolls!

Here’s another fashion-lacking OOTD for you!  The theme seems to be grey with a skull and some bows thrown in.

  • Jeans are my trusty Primark Super Soft High-Waisted distressed jeans;

  • Sugar skull necklace was bought secondhand from a derby girl; and
  • Flowery bow ballet pumps from Matalan (much loved and worn, as you can tell).

My makeup is pretty subtle (for me haha) – I’m wearing:

  • MUA translucent powder;
  • B. Sweet Whipped Blush in Strawberry;
  • MAC black khol eyeliner;
  • Maybelline Color Tattoo in On and On Bronze with a light wash of Kiko metallic red powder shadow over;

Have a great weekend guys!

Makeup & Hair of the Day: Bronze Eyes & Flower Crown!

Hey guys,

I just wanted to share another makeup/hair of the day with you from over the bank holiday weekend.  I was lucky enough to be feeling relatively okay (well, not really good, but not as bad as usual) over the weekend, so I did my hair and makeup!

On my eyes is Maybelline Color Tattoo in On & On Bronze, layered with a slightly darker bronze Kiko powder shadow in the crease and outer corners.  A pale silvery MUA powder shadow in the inner corners to add a light glow.  I lined my eyes with the dark brown shade from my new MUA Mysterial Palette, using a Gaya angled liner brush (which I will be reviewing soon!)  Finally, I added one layer of Primark volumising mascara and one layer of Primark False Lash mascara.  I honestly really like Primark mascaras, and keep reaching for those in preference to my Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara!!  Apologies for the stray hairs and messed up eyebrows, I had been out in the wind!

I pinned up the front section of my hair with a little bit of height and then added a New Look elasticated flower crown, as I’m a bit obsessed with them at the moment!  Foundation is Estee Lauder Double Wear, and I also had a bit of Rimmel bronzer on, as I was looking pretty pale!  Although you can’t really see in this photo, I used my Estee Lauder Pinkberry lipstick (part of a free gift set) for the first time too, and I actually really like it!  It’s the perfect pinky nude, and a lovely texture – very moisturising.  If I sound surprised, it’s because it looks quite boring in the tube!

Outfit of The Day (OOTD) – 2 April 2015

Afternoon peeps

I’m not feeling too great today after a rough pain day yesterday.  I have spent up until now in bed and probably would have stayed there if I didn’t have an appointment.  But I did.  So here is what I’m wearing!

(Side note: I never wore jeans until this year.  I mean, never.  I am very much a dresses and leggings kinda girl.  But since I found a couple of pairs of jeans that actually fit comfortably, I’m having a bit of a phase!  You will probably see me back in my old faithful dresses soon!)

I didn’t have my cameraman (/husband) on hand today so I’m afraid it’s a good old mirror-selfie!

As I didn’t get dressed yesterday, I’m a day late in wearing this teeshirt, but I still wanted to haha – it’s my Primark “On Wednesdays we wear pink” grey tee.  Very comfy!

I shoved my hair up into a bun, secured with two spin pins, and then covered it with this Primark flowery bun holder to inject some colour.  If you can’t get to Primark in person, Amazon do some similar ones.

I also wore my Primark coral and gold pumps, as I have to drive to my appointment and can’t drive in heels!  (Or walk in them, actually).

Today’s makeup is Estee Lauder Doublewear Light foundation, which I am trying a sample of, MUA loose powder, No7 Damson blush, bronzer for contouring (I forget which!), Eyeko eyeliner, Primark False Lash mascara and Maybelline Color Tattoo in Pink Gold with Boe Beauty eyeshadow over it to try and boost the colour (Boe Beauty is an Aussie brand I was sent in a makeup swap from a spoonie pal).  My lipstick is Collection Lasting Colour in Sweet Tart.  Excuse the eyebrows, they’re about to get done in time for the wedding this weekend so I can’t pluck them!

PS, I love the Estee Lauder foundation so far…. which is bad, as I can’t afford to actually buy it haha!
