Yellow and Grey Nail Art // Nails Inc Seven Dials and Smith & Cult Subnormal

Hey guys?  How are you?  Hope you’re having a good day!  If you’re not, take some time to do a bit of self-care.  Maybe have a nice bath, eat some good chocolate (Dairy Milk counts!) or do your nails.  That’s what I did today 🙂 (Note from future-Katie: I was too ill to finish off this post the same day, so by now the nails have all chipped haha!)  I haven’t had the energy to make much effort with my nails recently.  However, I got this super bright yellow nail polish in my Pink Parcel box and it was calling to me to use it!  So I decided to do a bit of yellow and grey nail art using Nails Inc Seven Dials* (yellow) and Smith & Cult Subnormal nail polishes.

I have to be honest, I’d seen a preview of the three Nails Inc shades you could receive in the August Pink Parcel and literally thought, “oh god, I hope I don’t get that yellow one”.  Yellow just isn’t a colour I wear or particularly like.  But I swatched it on a piece of paper and was impressed with how opaque it was in one coat.  Plus I like how vibrant and bright it is, so decided to branch out and give it a go!

Nails of the Day (NOTD) – Nails Inc Uptown and Barry M Socialite!

Hi everyone!

I’ve had a lot of feedback on my Nails of the Day posts, and they seem to be really popular.  I of course want to give you guys what you want, so here is another nail post!  I received this Nails Inc polish in the shade ‘Uptown’ in my May Love Me Beauty subscription box.  It’s a really nice subtle, neutral pink shade.  Something that would be perfect for work, or low maintenance nails (as it doesn’t show up too badly if it chips whilst you’re out and about).

As it is quite a muted shade, I decided to liven things up a bit!  I did an accent nail (or as I call them, a feature nail!) in glittery pink.  I chose this gorgeous Barry M shade in ‘Socialite’, which I received for my birthday from a friend.

The Nails Inc nail polish was easy to apply and had a lovely, creamy texture.  It actually lasted slightly longer than the other Gel Effect one I have in ‘Bond Street’ (review here), which I was pleased with.  Bond Street chipped literally the day I applied it!  This lasted a couple of days (so I would hope for better with a gel effect really, but at least it lasted longer than Bond Street!)  The Barry M glitter was easy to spread out and not too chunky, as some glitters are.  It was annoying to remove, as all glitter polishes seem to be, but they’re worth it for the prettiness!

Although I haven’t paid full price for either of the Nails Inc Gel Effect polishes, I do think they should be longer lasting at £14 each [update: now £15 each)! You can find Uptown here* and Socialite here*.

Purple, how I love thee!  Purple is my favourite colour (with pink coming a close second, but as a 30-year old, purple somehow seems more socially acceptable!)  This particular shade of purple, Nails Inc Bond Street, is beautiful – it’s sort of mauve, almost a very dark lavender.

It is a lovely creamy shade and opaque within two coats.  It’s very easy to apply, and you can take the big rectangular plastic bit off the lid and there is a normal little round handle to hold as you paint your nails.  I hope that makes sense!

This polish is part of the Nails Inc ‘Gel Effect Polish’ range, which boasts placticiser technology (anyone know what that is?!  No, me neither!).  Similar to the Barry M Sunset Nails range I reviewed a few days ago, this is intended to give a gel-like look and finish without the use of UV lamps.  It can be removed with normal nail polish remover.  The only difference with this one is that it doesn’t require a special topcoat, the curing effect is within the nail colour itself.

This is two coats of Nails Inc with one coat of Sally Hansen strengthening clear polish.

[Updated to add:  this lasted so badly!  For a £14 nail polish, I really expected so much more.  It chipped early on the second day and was unwearable by day 3.  I don’t know why it chips so badly, but it’s rubbish!  Particularly as it claims to be a gel-effect polish, so you kind of expect it to last longer than standard nail polishes.  This was a present, but I would never pay £14 for one of these myself!]
