Tanya Burr Duvet Day Nail Polish Review and Swatches Blue Grey Nail Varnish

Tanya Burr Duvet Day Nail Polish // Review!

Hola mi amigos!  Welcome back to the blog 🙂  If you’re a regular reader, you’ll know I love trying lots of different nail polish brands, finishes and colours.  I’m pretty much a nail polish addict!  When I set my eyes on Tanya Burr Duvet Day, I immediately knew I HAD to have it!  It’s one of the most beautiful coloured polishes I’ve ever seen.

It’s hard to describe, but the colour is sort of a gentle blue-grey.  It is muted but still so pretty.  This shade is so on-trend at the moment, but it’s also quite classic and could be worn to work.

Barry M Copper Mine Molten Metal Nail Paint Review and Swatches

Barry M Copper Mine Nail Polish // Review

Hey guys!  This isn’t so much of a nails of the day post as a review.  I’ve got pictures of the polish on my nails but obviously I haven’t done anything fancy with them!  This Barry M Copper Mine nail polish is just so stunning, I had to share it with you!

Barry M – Molten Metal Nail Paint in Copper Mine

Barry M Molten Metal Nail Paint Range

The Barry M Copper Mine nail polish is part of their fairly new Molten Metal range.  You can also get bronze, silver and gold.

Barry M say: “Molten Metals give your nails show-stopping style and an instant luxe look. Each of the four chrome effect shades have a mirror-shine foil finish that will glisten for days. Metallic nails are big news for 2016, try one coat for a sheer finish or build up for a stronger look”.  I personally wouldn’t use it sheer, as it just looks like you haven’t finished your nails properly!  But each to their own.

Each nail polish costs £3.99, which is a great price.  Barry M are a fairly budget brand, but they are actually really good quality.  They really know how to do nail polish well!

Nails of the Day // Summer Flower Nail Art!

Hey guys!  Another week, another nails of the day post 🙂  I like sharing my nails with you as it forces me to experiment and be a bit more creative.  It’s all too easy to fall back on the same old favourites otherwise!  Bear in mind that my nail art is never going to be amazing, as I have really shaky hands from my M.E.  But I still have fun doing them, so I don’t mind if you don’t?  I decided to try a bit of summery flower nail art today!

Superhero Nails Series // Marvel – Captain America Nails!

Hey guys!  I hope you’re having a great day.  It’s been a long, long time, but I’m finally back with the next part of my Superhero Nails Series!  This time, since I recently saw Captain America Civil War, it had to be Captain America nails!

These nails actually took a long time… as I’ve mentioned before, I have very shaky hands and often have little tremors.  This makes doing nail art a bit tricky, so I know they’re not the best.  But I enjoyed doing them and wanted to share them with you!

Superhero Nails

Hi guys!

If you saw my last nail post, you’ll see that I decided to do a Superhero Series, painting my nails to represent different Marvel superheroes.  After loving the film, my first one had to be Deadpool, which you can see here!  Today, it is…. HULK nails!  Sort of.  I don’t get out much as you probably know, so I had to go with the nail polishes I already had.  Now I know Hulk isn’t sparkly, but my nail representation of him is 😀

Marvel Hulk Nails

For my Hulk nails, I started with the green glittery nail polish (Mina Sweet Color in 89) on all but the ring fingers – it was pretty opaque, but needed 2 coats to look good.  I then took the purple polish (Morgan Taylor Bright Side) on my ring fingers, and in a jagged pattern on the top part of the middle fingernails.

I then took the Essence The Gel black nail polish in Black is Back and a small, thin nail brush.  I drew around the jagged purple polish on the middle finger to try and look a bit like the jagged bubbles in comics.  I also drew a basic design in black on the next fingers along, to look a bit like Hulk’s six pack! For a bit of a different look and texture, I took OPI’s Black Shatter and put it over the green glitter polish on each thumbnail.  If you don’t remember ‘shatter’ nail polish, you apply it over another varnish and it breaks up into a shattered pattern on the nail… the easiest possible nail art!

Finally I added a second coat of Bright Side to the ring fingers and whilst it was still tacky, I dipped the two nails into loose purple glitter.

The last step of my Hulk nails was to seal everything in with two coats of top coat – I used Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Diamond Top Coat. If I’d been able to go shopping, I probably would have got a more suitable green polish, but I don’t think I did too badly with what I had!  I am in no way an expert at nail art and have super shaky hands, but I enjoy playing around with it and had fun doing this Hulk nail look.

What do you think of these nails?  Do you ever do any nail art or themed nails?  Let me know in the comments. Stay tuned for the next superhero in the series – Captain America has been requested!

Superhero Nails // Marvel – Deadpool // Red and Black!

Hi guys!  Like most people, I recently went to see the film Deadpool.  I was curious to see how it would be, as I really didn’t enjoy Green Lantern, which Ryan Reynolds also stars in.  Luckily, Deadpool was a million times better – really funny and definitely not one for the kids!  A few days later, I needed to do my nails and a little thought began to form… and that is how these Deadpool nails came to be!  As I had a lot of fun doing them, I decided to start a little superhero nails mini-series.  Let me know who you’d like me to do next (I’m thinking more Avengers than X-Men).

How I did my Deadpool nails!

I laid down a base of Nails Inc Kensington Base Coat, followed by two coats of Nails Inc Tate red nail polish.  I couldn’t get away with just one coat of red, as it was a little streaky and not opaque enough.  Once that was touch-dry, I added black lines across the top third of three nails on each hand, using a small nail brush.  On the middle finger and thumb, I added two little oval shapes, to try and replicate the look of Deadpool’s mask!  The black polish I used was Essence The Gel in Black is Back.

I again waited for this to touch dry, then used a nail dotter tool to dot two white ‘eyes’ on each mask nail.  I just used a mini white nail polish from a set for this.  Once again, you’ve guessed it, I waited for this to dry (spoiler alert: these nails probably aren’t great for those in a rush – luckily for me I was stuck in bed with nothing else to do!)  Finally, I added one coat of Revlon Diamond Top Coat – I find this a pretty good top coat to stop my nails from chipping too quickly.  I have to say though, the red (Tate) was pretty bad for chipping – it needed touching up on day 2 and removing on day 4.

What do you think of my Deadpool nails?  Let me know in the comments.  I’m certainly no nail artist and I have quite shaky hands, but it’s fun to do something a little different for once.  Let me know which superhero inspiration you want to see next!

Purple Ombre Nails

Nails of the Day (NOTD) // Purple Ombre // Lottie London and Tanya Burr!

Happy hump-day guys!  (that’s a Wednesday just to clarify… I once said it to my mum and she was like ‘what?!!’)

I’ve got another nails of the day post for you.  I thought I’d try something a bit different, so I had a bash at doing ombre nails.  They didn’t turn out how I imagined – I was hoping for something a bit neater and more seamless, but I decided to embrace them and pretend I was going for the messy effect!

Purple Ombre Nails

Purple Ombre Nails

I used my usual Nails Inc Kensington Base Coat, which seems to really extend the life of my nail varnish, compared with using most other base coats.  I then painted one layer of the palest purple shade, Lottie London ‘Blogger Babe’, over my entire nails (you can see that colour properly in this post).

Next, I added a slightly darker purple shade, which was Lottie London ‘Go On’ (which you can see properly on my nails here).  Instead of applying this straight to my nails, I dabbed a small amount on a little nail sponge and dabbed it on (with the intention of giving it a more blurred, seamless edge into the next colour… which didn’t quite go to plan!)  I took the mid-purple shade around half way down each nail.

Lottie London Go On Tanya Burr Midnight Sparkles Lottie London Blogger Babe  Purple Ombre Nails

Finally, I took my darkest shade of purple – Tanya Burr’s Midnight Sparkles (which you can see properly on my nails here – it’s the dark base shade, just with glitter applied over it).  I repeated the last step of adding some to a nail sponge and then dabbing it onto the tips of my nails.  I decided to have the darkest shade on the tips as the Tanya Burr polish lasts really well whereas the Lottie London are gorgeous shades but chip really easily.  This way my tips are a bit less likely to chip within a day!

I waited for the colours to touch-dry and then added a coat of Essence Satin Matt Top Coat – it’s quite opaque in the bottle so I thought it might put a slight veil over the whole nail and make the joins between each shade a bit more seamless looking.  Good idea in theory but it didn’t come out opaque on the nails at all, it just left a matte finish.  I took this photo below with the matte finish but decided I’d prefer them glossy so I added a final slick of Revlon Diamond Top Coat.

If I did ombre nails again I would probably try to get hold of a smaller, more precise sponge as I was using quite a big, octagonal one, which made it a bit difficult!

What do you think of the ombre nail effect?  Is it something you’ve tried, or would try?  Let me know in the comments!
