Love Me Beauty Box February 2016

Love Me Beauty Box // February 2016 // Review and Unboxing

Hey guys!

I thought I had actually unsubscribed from Love Me Beauty box but for whatever reason, it still went through this month.  I’ve definitely unsubbed now, so enjoy the review of my last box!

Love Me subscription has changed quite a bit over the last few months (see this post) – the amount of credits you get has changed and they now offer quite a range of their own jewellery designs.  I really like that they’re doing something a bit different to the other beauty subscription boxes, and you actually have full control over what you choose each month.  The only downside for me is that a lot of months, there are products and jewellery items that have been there before, so it gets to a point where you are mostly choosing based on avoiding things you’ve already tried.  Hopefully they’ll mix things up every few months to avoid this becoming too much of an issue.  Due to a self-imposed rule of spending less money, I won’t actually find out, but if you get this box, do let me know!

I only chose three items (you can choose more lower value items or fewer items with a higher value) so I won’t go into too much detail, but here’s what I got:

Love Me Beauty Box February 2016

Love Me Beauty Box February 2016

Each item I chose this month was a 20 credit one (you get 60 credits in total).  I chose a Percy & Reed Invisible Dry Shampoo, as I also chose this in my December box and quite liked it.  As there were a lot of samples this month I either didn’t want or had already tried, I went for the boring option of something I knew I’d use.  As I said in December, I use dry shampoo a fair bit as I find washing my hair frequently difficult due to having M.E.  As I have naturally black hair, a lot of dry shampoos can show up very white when I spray them in – the fact that this is invisible is really useful and prevents too much of a premature ageing effect!  It has a nice subtle perfumey smell and is something I’ll definitely use up.

Next up is this Lanolips Lemonaid Lip Aid.  I’d heard of this and the lemonade scent really appealed to me.  I also already have a tinted Lanolips balm which is so, so hydrating – the lanolin seems really effective at moisturising and really getting rid of dry, flaky lips.  First up, this smells gorgeous!  It smells exactly like a lemon drop sweet – really similar to actual lemonade but quite sharp and citrusy, not too overly sweet.  It is really thick and you have to squeeze quite hard to get it out of the tube but beware – a little goes a long way!  It leaves my lips perfectly soft.  I’ll definitely repurchase this in the future.  One thing to be aware of is that it’s not suitable for vegans, as lanolin is derived from sheep’s wool.

Finally is one of Love Me Beauty’s own jewellery items.  I seem to be attracted like a magpie to anything rose quartz – I already got their ‘Suspended Rose Quartz Hoop Earrings in December, so thought I’d try the ear cuff too.  I haven’t worn an ear cuff since I was about 14 years old… it brings back so many memories!  I used to have 5 ear piercings in total but 3 have healed over the years, so this is a nice way of wearing more ear jewellery with no commitment.

Love Me Beauty Rose Quartz Ear Cuff

Love Me Beauty Rose Quartz Ear Cuff (Photo Credit: Love Me Beauty)

You don’t have to have any ear piercings to wear this, the three little cuffed hoop-bits wrap around the edge of the ear to hold it on.  The metal is fairly soft, so it’s quite easy to tighten or loosen off depending on your ear shape.  I have to loosen it off to get it in the right place, and then tighten it over my ear to keep it in place, so don’t be too afraid of breaking it.  My only worry is that it feels a bit precarious, so I’ll be scared of losing it if I wear it out.

Overall I’m pretty happy with this box, and have definitely found a product I would repurchase in the Lanolips, but I’m fairly happy to end my subscription for now.  If money is less tight in future, I would consider re-subscribing and it’s likely they’ll have some new contents by then but I’m ok leaving it for now.  I will still be subscribing to You Beauty and Glossybox, together with Birchbox at least for a while, so don’t worry, my unboxing posts are going nowhere!

What do you think of this box?  Would you wear an ear cuff (or did you as a teenager?)  Let me know in the comments or Tweet me!

Love Me Beauty // December 2015 // Review and Unboxing!

Hi guys

I no longer subscribe to Love Me Beauty, but I still get regular emails from them.  I really liked the look of December’s choices, so I bought a one-off box as a Christmas treat!

See this post to find out more details about how the service works.  The only difference since I wrote that post is that you now get 60 credits per month, rather than 6; plus 30 extra credits every 3rd month of your subscription.  You can choose between items which cost 10 or 20 credits each (with the very odd thing costing more – for example a gold necklace at 200!)  As always, you can choose to spend more than 60 credits per month – you will just be charged for the additional items accordingly.

Here’s what I chose!

Percy & Reed – Radiance Revealing Invisible Dry Shampoo:  as I have black hair, I have to be careful which dry shampoos I use.  Some can leave me looking prematurely grey, even when properly rubbed in!  I have already found my ‘holy grail’ dry shampoo, TREsemme Instant Refresh, but thought I would give this a go as it’s a nice brand.  I haven’t used it yet but it smells nice, almost like a really subtle perfume.

Lord & Berry – 20100 Crayon Lipstick in Plum:   I love Lord & Berry lip products!  I have received several in different shades in past beauty boxes and have been really impressed by all of them.  They are usually a lovely finish, satin rather than matte, meaning they aren’t too drying but still last well.  My other shades are oranges and reds, whereas this is a lovely purpley shade (plum).  I love purple lipsticks so there was no question that I would choose this one!  It leans a little pink on this photo but is more purple in person.

Love Me Beauty – Suspended Rose Quartz Hoop Earrings:  These are fine gold hoop earrings with suspended, cone-shaped rose quartz charms.  These caught my eye as I liked the combination of gold and pink, they look really pretty.  I used to hate gold until a year or so ago, but now I really like it!  I would probably wear these for something more formal, like a wedding, as they’re a bit on the big side for everyday wear.  I don’t know how long Love Me Beauty have been doing jewellery, but they didn’t when I used to subscribe so it must only have started this year.  They have some very pretty, delicate necklaces and bracelets on there at the moment, all made from gold or silver.  Worth a look if you like your jewellery!

What do you think of this month’s box?  Do you like the idea of receiving jewellery, or would you prefer to receive more items that cost less each?

Love Me Beauty Box May 2015 – Unboxing and Review!

Love Me Beauty is a monthly beauty subscription box.You are automatically given 6 credits per month for your basic subscription price of £10 plus P&P.  Items are generally either 1 or 2 credits, depending on their value.  The best aspect of this box is the flexibility – you can actually select as many products as you want and you will simply be charged more for the box.  I don’t know how much, as I stuck to my available credits, but thought this was useful if there were too many products to choose from!  Once you have chosen your items, they are delivered to you within 3 – 5 days.  If you want to know more about how it works, check out this post.

The box itself is the same each month, but I really like it – it looks minimal and classy, so is nice to use for storage.  It is a silvery-grey colour with rose gold font on the front.  The items came, as always, in a linen-type drawstring bag – this is handy as the bag can be reused for travelling or storing makeup etc.

This is what came this month:

Mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge in No. 6 Paris (Mini)

_20150531_173955     _20150531_174925

This matte liquid lipstick was the first product I chose this month.  I’m a sucker for lip products, especially anything pink or purple!  I hadn’t heard of the brand Mirenesse before, but have seen them around on YouTube etc since then, so I think they must be trying to raise their public profile.

This liquid lippie is described as having a “hydrating formula with a ‘Lip Hug’ applicator to fill in fine lip lines beautifully.  This product has a tattoo-like staying power and a plush velvet finish”.  It is a beautiful colour on the lips – my photo above doesn’t do it justice (and please ignore the terrible application!!).  It is the swatch on the left below – a beautiful plummy purple with a hint of pink.

It lasts a really long time on the lips and is not too drying (which matte liquid lipsticks can be quite often).  The only thing I don’t like about this product is the applicator, which is strange as that is something they specifically advertise!  They call it a ‘Lip Hug’ applicator and it is quite small but with a curve in the middle. I found that I couldn’t use it as intended or the product would go all over my face!  I have to just apply it with the tip of the applicator (or a brush).  This isn’t really a problem though and I’m still really pleased with it.

You can find it here.

Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Palm Beach

_20150531_174026     _20150531_173930

Another liquid lipstick… well I did tell you I’m a sucker for lip products!  This one is in a striking bright fuchsia pink colour.  I haven’t heard of Ofra before, but a bit of research shows that they claim to be “an internationally recognised name in the beauty industry, started in 1994”.

This liquid lippie has a lovely consistency, is super easy to apply and is really bright and opaque – I really like it!  It is long lasting and not especially drying on the lips.  I would definitely consider buying other colours from this line.  It is the swatch on the right below.

You can find it here.

S5 Skincare Renew Serum

I chose this product because I use serums twice daily, so get through a lot of them and like to try different ones.  I have not heard of the company S5 before, but they are based in the UK.  The 5 in the name apparently stands for the 5 most common skin concerns people have – blemishes, sensitivity, dryness, hyper-pigmentation and premature ageing.

This is a fairly small sample (5ml) but as you don’t need to use much, it should still last long enough to see if I like it.  The serum contains arctic bioactives to plump and smooth the skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles.  It is a thick, creamy consistency and the bottle has a dropper pipette in the lid to dispense a small amount each time.

I will probably keep this until I next go away, as it is the perfect size for travelling or taking on holiday.  As I always say, you can’t really tell if a skincare product is effective for at least a month or so, so although I cannot tell you whether this product works wonders, my initial impressions are positive.

Find it here.

Mini Kabuki Brush

I was a bit disappointed with the size of this brush when the box arrived.  For scale, it is smaller than my thumb.  Kabuki brushes are usually quite large.  It wasn’t really clear from the photo on the Love Me site that it would be so small.  Never mind, I will use it as a travel brush or keep it in my mini makeup bag I keep in my handbag!

The brush is lovely and soft, so I’m sure I will still get use from it.

Weleda Replenishing Shampoo and Balancing Shampoo

These are cute little 18ml travel sized shampoos, perfect for travelling with.  The replenishing shampoo contains oats, to help replenish dry and damaged hair.  It smells unusual for shampoo, although not in a bad way – it smells a bit like body lotion!  The balancing shampoo contains wheat, to help problem scalps.  It smells quite strong (although still pleasant), which I think may be down to the sage it contains.  I am using up my current shampoo and conditioner, so haven’t tried these yet.  I will probably save them for travelling.

Find them here – Replenishing, and Balancing.

Nails Inc Gel Effect Nail Polish in Uptown

I already own one of the Gel Effect polishes from Nails Inc (Bond Street), which is a lovely blue-toned purple.  This one, Uptown, is a very muted nude-pink.  It definitely comes out more nude-toned on the nails than it looks in the bottle.

I’ve been a little disappointed with these Gel Effect polishes.  They have really bad staying power on the nails, and chip almost instantly!  I have been using a similar product from Barry M (Sunset Nails) which last much longer without chipping, and are less than half the price.  Although this is a nice polish that I will still use, I do think the staying power should be better, considering if you bought it in the shop, it would be £14!

Find it here.

Overall, I enjoyed this box and received a lot of products I will definitely use and enjoy.  My two stand-outs are the liquid lipsticks from Ofra and Mirenesse – they are vibrant, pretty and have good formulas!

Love Me Beauty Box April 2015 – Unboxing & Review!

Love Me Beauty is a monthly beauty subscription box (and we know how much I love those!)  It describes itself as the “fastest growing beauty revolution”.  On signing up to the site, you complete a fairly detailed beauty profile, including things like your hair and eye colour, skin type and beauty concerns (anti-ageing, blemishes etc).  After you have completed your details, it processes what you have said and then makes suggestions which are supposedly based on your answers.  Now I say supposedly as it didn’t seem at all accurate for me.  I indicated that I do not fake tan and that I have dark hair.  The “tailored recommendations” suggested that I might like several fake tanning products, and haircare for blonde hair!  Hmmm…

Despite the initial teething problems, I realised that this didn’t really matter.  All the “personalised” bit does is take a selection of that month’s available products which you may like.  You can just ignore it and browse the full “boutique” of available items, which is what I did.

You are automatically given 6 credits per month for your basic subscription price of £10 plus P&P.

I have only looked at the selections over a two month period (last month out of interest, and the actual box I chose this month).  From what I have seen, there is a good selection of cosmetics, nail polish, skincare and hair care. The items arrived in a great quality grey-silver box, within a nice cloth pouch (which could be reused to take jewellery on trips or something).

Here are my selections for April 2015:

Nails Inc Nail Polish – Bruton Lane (full size – 1 credit)

IMG_20150422_172721 IMG_20150422_172735

The ever-present Nails Inc!  I have so many of their nail polishes but I don’t think I’ve ever actually bought one.  They are very frequently offered as free gifts with magazines, Diet Coke and beauty boxes!  This is a new shade – Bruton Lane.  It is a nice “peaches and cream” colour, opaque within two coats.  (I also got a purple shade as I had a code for an extra credit, but I think this will be given away as a gift so I won’t be reviewing it).  This isn’t the best picture as I quickly dashed it on over some old gel nails, but it was a lovely thick, even texture and dried reasonably quickly.  Available here.

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer in Medium/Deep (Travel Size – 2 credits)

This is a bit of a cult product on YouTube and beauty blogs.  I have heard it mentioned quite a lot so was pleased to get my hands on one to try.  I have only swatched it so far, but despite being described as “medium/deep”, it doesn’t look too scary!  It looks like it will be nice and buildable, and due to it being matte, it may be good for contouring.  It also smells gorgeous – actually sweet and chocolatey, yum!  Find it here.

Model Co Illusion Lip Liner in Nude (Full size – 1 credit)

I chose this product as I’ve been building a bit of a lip liner collection recently.  I realised it really does help your lipstick last and look better, and also helps with the new trend for overdrawing lips.  I have quite a few pink, red and purple shades but no nudes.  This shade looks quite dark brown in the pencil, but is a very natural, wearable colour on the lips.  It has a nice texture and is easy to use.  It also comes with a sharpener in the lid, which is always useful.  I’m not a fan of the packaging, but that’s just a personal thing.  I always think white packaging can look a bit cheap (Tesco Value, right?)  You can find it on their website, here.  PS, how apt is the quote that came in the box?  I will be sticking this up in my dressing room!

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (Travel Size – 2 credits)

Another product that is doing the beauty blogger/YouTube rounds!  I was excited to try this to see if it held up to the hype.  I mean better than sex?  That’s a pretty bold claim…!  Speaking of bold claims – the box it comes in is full of them!  “100% saw dramatic volume”; “90% saw a dramatic look with one coat” etc.  Now.  I would say it was definitely lengthening and volumising, and did only need two coats to look pretty full-on.  However there were two down sides for me.

1)  The brush shape… Too Faced claim their hourglass shaped wand was designed after “discovering the bust-waist-hip ratio of an iconic silver-screen Blonde Bombshell held the secret to the perfect brush”…. hmmm.  I disagree.  The strangely shaped wand is actually quite awkward to use and resulted in me getting mascara on my face a few times.  I think they liked the way that claim sounded but that it doesn’t actually translate to real life!

2)  It flaked.  I have heard a lot of people complain of flaking mascara but have never experienced it myself, until now.  To be fair to the product, I had been rubbing my eyes as I had a migraine.  But still, it did flake a lot.  From a fairly expensive brand, I would expect a slightly better formula.

I know that all sounds quite negative, but I do actually like the mascara and I’m sure I’ll get used to using the wand.  I will definitely continue to use it until it’s finished.  If you want to see what the hype is about, find it here.

Overall, I was really pleased with the Love Me Beauty April 2015 box and felt it provided very good value for money.
