Top Skincare Tips: Expert Roundup – Acne, Scarring, Getting Glowy & More!

Hey guys!  How are you?  I hope you’re doing better than me!  My husband and I are both full of a rather nasty cold.  On top of that, my poor cat is on antibiotics and painkillers as she’s been bitten by a mean neighbouring cat!  You wait until I see that cat…!!  Joking.  Maybe.  I just wanted to share a post with you, which is a round-up of 200+ experts’ top skincare tips!

Experts’ Top Skincare Tips

Fix Your Skin recently asked for my top three skincare tips, to include in their expert round up post.  You can read the post here and get some amazing skincare tips!  I’m number 77 if you want to find me 🙂

Firstly, I’m definitely no expert but am very flattered to be included with others who are!  I have a big interest in skincare, as I’ve struggled with hormonal acne and acne scarring for many years.  When you’ve suffered with bad skin, you naturally start doing a lot of research, and trying anything you can to improve your skin!  I’m sure you know what I mean, if you’ve been in a similar position.

At the moment, my skin is at the best it has been in years.  This is thanks, in no small part, to a careful skincare routine and regular facials/LED treatments.

Treating Acne Scarring

I don’t have many active spots at the moment, which is pretty rare for me!  I do however have some areas of quite bad acne scarring, from having a break from the pill last year.  My hormones were unbalanced and my skin went to all hell!!  Damn hormones.

My skincare routine is focused around trying to fade the acne scarring at the moment.  I use a lot of acid/glycolic exfoliating toners, moisturising oils and LED treatments.  The Light Salon at Harvey Nichols in Leeds gave me a series of four LED facials, which were really helpful.  You can read all about it and my review here.

I was also kindly sent a TrulyClear home LED facial device (review here) which I’ve just started using on the acne/scarring setting so fingers crossed!  There is no quick fix to better skin, but staying consistent is the key.  I should hopefully see some decent results in a few months time if I stick to my routine.  Most of all, I want to prevent any more acne (hence stopping any more future acne scarring!)

What are your top skincare tips?  Do you have any star products that really help with your acne, or even just keep your clear skin looking good?  Let me know in the comments or on social media!  I need all the help I can get haha 😀

Can Brain Fog Hurt Chronic Illness ME CFS Fibromyalgia spoonie post

Can Brain Fog Hurt? // Chronic Illness

Hi guys – happy weekend!  Hope everyone is having a good one so far (even if you’re in the rainy UK, like me).  I’ve been dying to write this post – can brain fog hurt?  This question has been burning a hole in my brain and I wanted to see what everyone else thought.  If you’re not sure what brain fog is, Wiki desribes it here as:

“A clouding of consciousness.  It is a term used in medicine denoting an abnormality in the regulation of the overall level of consciousness that is mild, and less severe than a delirium.  The sufferer experiences a subjective sensation of mental clouding described as feeling ‘foggy’.”

If you’re not a regular reader, I have chronic illnesses – M.E (/CFS) and fibromyalgia.  I was diagnosed in 2013 and the symptoms began long before that, as a less intense level.  So I’m definitely not new to brain fog!  It is something I’ve done battle with for several years now!  When I was unwell but still able to work, I had terrible brain fog.

Love Your Body This Valentines

You may remember this post, where I reviewed two other products from the Moroccan Rose line.  I absolutely loved them, and am still using up the last bits of those two products now!  They really do go a long way.  I was excited to try something else from the Moroccan Rose range, as I love the scent.

Dr Botanicals chose this product for February as their theme for the month is “Love your body this Valentines”.  I suppose as a gift (to a loved one, or yourself), it’ll last longer than actual roses!

Organic Aromas // The Elements Premium Essential Oil Blends Collection

Hi guys!  I hope you’re well.  You may remember this post, where I reviewed Organic Aromas’ essential oil diffuser.  They’re a company I’ve got a great connection with, and really rate their products!  If you didn’t read that post, Organic Aromas are an American company, comprised of a group of passionate, experienced health care professionals.  They have combined knowledge from Asia with new technology to create a range of essential oil diffusers and oils.  They feel that using essential oils in our everyday lives can help us develop a richer, full lifestyle.

Organic Aromas have recently brought out a new collection of essential oils – The Elements Premium Essential Oil Blends Collection.  It’s almost an anthology of oils, all brought together to work in harmony!  They very kindly sent me the oils to try, but as always, all opinions are truthful and entirely my own!

May 12 Blog Bomb 2016 Post - ME Awareness Week

Knowing Your Limits Does Not Make You Negative! // May 12 Blog Bomb // ME Awareness Week

Hi guys!  You may or may not know that it is ME Awareness Week.  If you’re a regular reader, you will already know that I have M.E.  If you’re not, and want to know a bit more about the illness, I’ve written about that here.  The purpose of ME Awareness Week is literally that – to raise awareness of this often very misunderstood chronic illness.  As the charity Action for ME say, “While we work to increase understanding of M.E. throughout the year, ME Awareness Month offers an opportunity to really highlight the impact of the condition in the press and among professionals and the general public”.

May 12 Blog Bomb 2016 Post - ME Awareness Week

The reason that ME awareness is so important is that it’s an invisible illness – it is misunderstood, hard to diagnose, and there is currently no cure (or even effective treatment).  As ME can make you so unwell, sufferers often stop being able to spend time with family and friends, and may have to stop working.  We can become isolated as we are stuck at home and don’t really get to be out in society.  This means that others often don’t see the true toll the illness takes on their loved one.  I went from working full time, exercising regularly, training with a roller derby team and spending lots of time socialising to being bedridden in a fairly short period of time.  If you want to read last year’s ME Awareness Week post, you can find it here.  I explain more of my story, from my symptoms, how my life was affected and how I imagine my future without chronic illness.

MY HYDROTHERAPY TREATMENT // FINAL SESSION AND AFTER-EFFECTS // CHRONIC ILLNESS

Hi guys! If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve read the rest of my hydrotherapy series of posts.  If not, this one won’t make as much sense, so catch up with the previous posts.  I’ll wait here for you – pop back when you’re done!

Hydrotherapy Treatment for ME Fibromyalgia Chronic Pain

Final Hydrotherapy Session

I’ve finally finished my hydrotherapy sessions!  I won’t go back over what the actual hydrotherapy entails, as you can find all that information in my earlier posts.  I just wanted to tell you how I found the last two sessions, how my health was affected and what I’m planning to do going forward. I was given a series of six sessions by the NHS.  Sadly I was too unwell to go to two of them (as they are every week for six weeks, so I struggled to recover in time for the next ones at first).  They were kind enough to give me one extra, but couldn’t fit me in for two additional ones – so I had five sessions in total.  On the plus side, the two times I was too unwell to go, I had to ring and tell them on the day, but found they were very understanding and didn’t make me feel bad like some hospitals do.

“The two times I was too unwell to go, the hospital were very understanding”
