This is my second installment of my ‘everyday hero products’ series. You can find the first post here. As a blogger, it is so easy to talk about new products you’ve tried, seasonal products you’re enjoying and new things you’ve hauled. But I realised recently that there are products I absolutely love, and use nearly every day, staying loyal to… yet I don’t talk about them on here! I almost take them for granted as I use them so often. Hence this series, to shine a light on some of my everyday hero products!
The three products I am talking about today have made such a difference to the condition of my hair. It is much healthier and shinier these days.
Faith In Nature Chocolate Shampoo
I probably wouldn’t have thought to try this brand if it hadn’t been a present from my husband. At Easter, he bought me lots of chocolate scented beauty and hair products (lucky me!) Faith In Nature is a cruelty-free, vegan brand. This shampoo contains cocoa and vanilla, along with sage (which you can’t smell). It is free from parabens and SLS – which is the very thing I think has made such a difference to my hair!
SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) is a widely used chemical added to shampoos to make them foam more. Unfortunately, SLS can also be an irritant and dry out the hair. In my case, I found it stripped my hair so much that my hair would get oilier to compensate for the natural oils being lost. There can be such thing as hair being ‘too clean’! I wouldn’t say I’ll never use a shampoo with it in again but at the moment, my hair is definitely better off without it.
This shampoo smells gorgeous, cleans hair well and leaves it feeling really soft. I would say you have to use a little more shampoo than with one containing SLS, as there is less lather to cover the hair. I will continue repurchasing this as long as it’s still leaving my hair in good condition!
You can buy it in some health food stores (for example Holland & Barrett and Out of This World) or on their website here. It costs £5.50.
Beauty Protector Protect & Oil – Hair Oil
I was never into hair oils at all until I found this one! I found them too heavy for my very straight, fine hair. They would always make my hair look greasy. I received two small bottles of this oil in my Birchbox subscription. In truth, I probably wouldn’t have even tried it if it wasn’t for the fact I wanted to give my review on here.
Firstly, this argan oil smells AMAZING!! It smells of a lovely combination of toffee and caramel, and the smell lingers in your hair for the day. It only takes a small amount, rubbed between your palms and smoothed over the lengths and ends of the hair. My samples have lasted months so far, so I haven’t even bought this yet, but I definitely will when it runs out. This leaves my hair soooo silky and soft! Every time I use it I end up making my hubby touch my hair – “but just feeeeel how soft it is!!” Haha!
The oil is also paraben and cruelty free.
It can only be bought exclusively on the Birchbox website here.
Number 4 Lumiere d’hiver Reconstructing Masque
This is one of those products I wish I didn’t love so much, as it’s so expensive! It is a restorative treatment that infuses hair with moisture and protein. It contains a blend of soy proteins, vitamin B5 and natural conditioners (such as shea butter and jojoba oil).
You use it as a normal hair mask; shampoo your hair as normal, apply this and leave in for about 5 minutes, then rinse out. This is another product that is cruelty, SLS and paraben free, vegan and even gluten free!
I have never used a mask that my hair has responded to so well before. All masks generally leave your hair soft, but this feels like it’s actually undone damage over time and genuinely improved the condition of my hair. Plus luckily you only need a small amount, so it does last a while.
You can join the waitlist to get it from Birchbox (UK based) here. They also have an American website, but shipping to the UK is crazy!
