Hi guys If you don’t know this already, I’m English. Being English usually means two things…
- Is from England.
- Loves drinking tea.
Ok, so I’m sure there are some Brits out there who don’t like tea, but we’re pretty famed for quaffing our cuppas. If anyone is ever poorly, upset or has just had a bad day, us English people truly believe ‘a nice cup of tea’ will solve it! I drink lots of different kinds – fruit, green, (although only flavoured ones, I can’t deal with plain green tea!), herbal, ‘builders’ but my absolute favourite is Earl Grey. Earl Grey is my ‘normal’ drink that I reach for daily. If you haven’t tried Earl Grey, it’s a black tea with flavours of bergamot. You can drink it with milk or black with a slice of lemon (I like both but usually drink mine with a dash of soya milk).
We Are Tea are a London-based, independent, ethical company attempting to do things a little differently. They ethically source whole-leaf teas from artisan producers around the world and hand-pack them here in the UK. What I like is that their aim is to make the often complex and daunting world of speciality tea more open and accessible to everyone. They have a nice range of different teas, from black, white, green, oolong and flavour infusions (these are caffeine-free). If you really don’t fancy dealing with loose leaf tea or need something more convenient, they offer their core range of tea in whole leaf bags as well.
When I was offered a diffuser and some loose leaf tea to try, I jumped at the chance! I chose their Earl Grey Supreme blend alongside their Simplicitea infuser. I was sent the infuser and tea free of charge, to test out, however as always, all views and opinions are my own. This is not a sponsored post. I very rarely drink loose leaf tea, only because it’s usually a bit of a faff, having to use a strainer and having somewhere to put the wet strainer when you take it out. I like the fact that loose leaf makes it feel more like a little ritual though! There is something quite calming about the process of making yourself the perfect cuppa.
We Are Tea – Earl Grey Supreme
The Earl Grey Supreme contains a blend of whole-leaf black teas scented with oil of bergamot and sprinkled with cornflowers to make it super pretty! It offers a “light, bright infusion with the distinctive aroma and flavour of citrus bergamot”. I found the tea quite strong, which is great as even though I prefer Earl Grey to regular black tea, I still like it to pack a punch in the flavour department! There’s nothing worse than a really weak, watery cuppa (unless you’re my mum…)! You only need one teaspoon of tea per cup, so the 100g cannister is lasting me a long time. It’s definitely something I would repurchase (maybe alongside a few other flavours… I’m sure I can spread my love around)!
We Are Tea – simplicitea Loose Leaf Infuser
I found the Simplicitea infuser really simple and easy to use. You just add one teaspoon of loose leaf per cup (this infuser made 2 cups), add boiling water and leave to brew for the time suggested on the individual tea (so 3 to 5 minutes for mine). It comes with a handy coaster which the infuser can sit on, to avoid any water drips. Once it has brewed, you sit the infuser on top of your cup and the cup presses up the base, letting the tea flow into your cup. Just lift the diffuser up when it gets close to the top. It can sit back on the coaster until you want the next cup-ful out of it! You could also use it over a teapot instead of a cup, and just fill the whole pot in one go from the diffuser, whatever you prefer.
The diffuser is BPA-free and, most importantly to me, can go in the dishwasher! I hate hand washing anything I don’t have to, haha! What I liked most about this was the great flavour of the tea – it really does make a difference. I also really like supporting a small company, who seem so genuinely passionate about what they do. The fact that it makes enough for 2 cups is also really helpful for me, as I can’t always get up and about easily (due to chronic illness) so I only have to make one trip. I think Super Berry is the next flavour on my list to try!
