LED Facials At Home: TrulyClear Ultrasonic Light Therapy Review

Hey guys!  How is everyone doing in the run up to Christmas?  Are you ready?  I’m feeling very festive already!  You might remember when I went to the launch of The Light Salon at Harvey Nichols Leeds, to try out LED light therapy?  Well I’ve been back several times since and really rate it.  And now I’m trying out the same LED light therapy… at home!  I was very kindly sent the TrulyClear Ultrasonic Light Therapy device from True Company to test out.  As ever, although I was kindly gifted this device, all opinions are honest and my own.

It is only recently that LED light therapy devices have been available to use at home, so it’s pretty exciting to get to test it out for myself!  TrulyClear market this device as giving you ‘real gain with no pain’, which I definitely find to be true.  By using your bodies’ own healing powers, skin can be massively improved without any intrusive treatments.

TrulyClear Ultrasonic Light Therapy Device – The Design

The first thing that struck me was how gorgeous this device is!  It’s so sleek, modern and shiny – perfect for a magpie like me, haha.  The candy apple red colour is gorgeous, and really makes it stand out in a world of black and silver gadgets.

The display is small, but perfectly clear to read from.  There are four buttons on the handle.  You have to press quite firmly to use them, so there’s no real risk of accidentally pressing a button when using the device.  It is lovely to hold – firm but not too heavy (which is great for me, as due to my M.E I have weak arms so would struggle to hold something too weighty).  It is just the right shape to fit the curve of your hand – really well designed!

What It Does

LED light therapy was only previously used in the medical world, for things like helping heal the skin of burns victims.  It is now becoming a popular skincare treatment, as it is so quick, easy and effective.  It’s also completely harmless, and not damaging to the skin in any way.  It is suitable for skin of all types and colours.

LED Light Colours: Functions

Light therapy uses LED, near-infrared light in order to stimulate the skin.  Benefits are different depending on which colour light you use:

Red promotes the reduction of blemishes, softens skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  It also firms the skin, and increases the production of collagen.

Blue is effective in diminishing inflammation, eliminating bacteria that causes acne.  It also helps to heal acne scarring and other scarring.

Green targets and breaks up melanin clusters that cause skin discolouration, resulting in more luminous, healthy-looking skin.

Other Functions

What really impressed me was that this device not only provides LED therapy, it also has two extra functions!  There is a cleansing function and a massage option.  The Galvanic ION+ function cleanses skin by attracting oil, dirt and grime from deep inside the pores – it then removes them from the skin.  It does this by using positive ions.  There is also an opposite setting, which uses negative ions to infuse nutrients and goodness into your skin.  This setting is perfect for preparing your skin, to ensure your serums and skincare products infuse into it and to activate the cell renewal process.

Secondly is the soothing microwave massage function, which is as good as it sounds!  This setting uses microwaves to produce a gentle vibration, which massages the skin.  The waves reach the deep dermis of the skin, helping to cleanse the skin and break up the build up of oils and residues.  This can help to unclog pores and reduce blackheads (which I think we all need help with – those blackhead-cleansing face masks are just terrifying!)

Does It Work

Yes!  Is the simple answer 🙂  The device is really easy to use and performs all its functions really well.  I love having all those options from just one device – so much easier than having a separate cleansing brush and facial massager!  The device is really pleasant to use.  Some people can potentially experience a bit of skin redness or minor swelling, although this is unlikely.  If you do, it is a natural part of the healing process and will disappear quickly.  I personally didn’t experience anything adverse at all.

My only difficulty was getting the device head to move smoothly over my skin, in small circles as you are instructed to move it.  As my skin was clean and dry, it seemed to drag on the head a little.  It was easier to move in an upwards direction.  Even touching the skin only lightly, I couldn’t seem to get a smooth movement across the face. I tended to hold it on each small area for a few seconds and then lift and hold on the next area, not staying in any one place for too long.  If you do this, bear in mind it’s not how they actually instruct you to use it!!  But it worked for me.

It’s really difficult to tell whether a skincare product/item has worked until at least three months on, if not more.  As skin renews slowly and naturally fluctuates, any concrete changes won’t show up for several months.  So I can’t say if this device has had a genuine impact on my skin yet, but my skin certainly seems to have reacted well to it.  My long-standing hormonal spots and scarring from old recurring acne are looking calmer and smoother!

I will 100% continue using the TrulyClear Ultrasonic Light Therapy device on a regular basis to see how my skin changes.  I will update this post in a few months time and let you know what changes I have noticed by then, if any!

What It Costs / Where To Find It

The TrulyClear Ultrasonic Light Therapy device costs $430 and can be found here.  It may seem like a steep price tag, but the device is using quite sophistocated technology.  Not to mention you’re effectively getting a cleansing brush and facial massager too!  For my UK readers, I believe they will ship to the UK.  At the current exchange rate, the device is around £340.  At the time of writing, the device is currently on flash sale at $119 here but I have no idea how long that will last!

The set also contains eye goggles (in a case) to protect your eyes from the LED light, a charger and a pack of cotton pads.  For my non-American readers, the plug is an American two pin one, but will fit a standard adapter, a shaving socket (which I use) or will even charge through your computer using a USB adapter!

Overall, I’m a big fan of the TrulyClear Ultrasonic Light Therapy device!  It has so many uses that it really earns its space in my cabinet.  If you’re anything like me and have had issues with your skin for a long period of time, you will probably be happy to invest in skincare.  If something is truly effective and can help my skin in the long term, I feel like it earns its price tag!

A huge plus for me is that due to being chronically ill, I very often can’t leave the house.  This means that LED facials at the salon aren’t always an option for me.  This device means that I can have one any time I like, at home!  Perfect.

If there is anything I haven’t covered, or any questions you want answers to, let me know in the comments and I’ll get back to you!

HI Katie – thank you for the great review. I recently bought one and I am very anxious to try it. How often do you use yours? once a week? twice a week? I can’t find it in the instructions. Thanks so much!

Ahh thank you very much for reading and commenting! I tend to use mine once a week but it should be more, I just forget!! Basically, use it 2-4 times a week whilst you have active skin issues (spots, scars etc) and then you can drop to once a week as maintenance. I hope you enjoy yours! Xx

Hi! Yes I’m still using it. You definitely get results but you have to be consistent. If you have acne or scarring etc, you would need to use it at least once a week (you can safely use it every day if you want, it’s up to you!) It takes a few months to see results, as the new skin needs to regenerate and come through. My acne scarring is definitely improved and I’m not getting as many new spots now. I would say it’s worth the cost if you have any of the same issues as me with your skin, and will consistently use it. You just have to be patient 🙂 xx
