Hey guys! I hope you’re well and having a good start to the week. I wanted to quickly show you the Barry M Berry Good Lip Oil and let you know what I think of it.
It’s one of those products that’s been really hyped up on beauty blogs and YouTube vids recently. Sadly though, I wasn’t quite as happy with it as everyone else seems to be!
Barry M – New Lip Oils
Barry M brought out two lip oils recently – Coco Loco and Berry Good. Coco Loco is (obviously) a coconut scented lip oil, and is completely clear. Although the coconut was very appealing, I went with Berry Good as it looked to have a nice red tint to it. I knew it would be very sheer, but as it turns out it basically looks totally clear on the lips!
My advice if you’re looking to get one of these is to pick whichever scent you prefer, as the tint doesn’t really show at all (as you can tell from the heart swatch above, and my hand swatch below)!
Barry M Berry Good – Packaging
The Barry M Berry Good oil has a pleasant, fruit scent. The packaging is pretty, with colour-coordinated writing and lid. My first problem came when I went to use it for the first time! The little stopper came straight out of the tube, leaving me doing battle trying to get it back in and getting my hands covered in sticky goo… nice! Haha. It’s not a big problem as I know it happens fairly commonly, but it’s quite annoying as it never stays in. Every time I pull the wand out, the stopper just pops back out again.
It has a rounded doe foot applicator, which makes it a little awkward to apply to the lips. I’m not sure why they didn’t go for a normal doe foot. Either way it’s only a minor annoyance, as obviously you don’t have to be very precise with applying this product!
Hmmm…. If you’re a regular reader, you know I’m not super fussy. I usually like stuff unless it’s really rubbish. This is really rubbish! Sorry Barry M! I really like most of their makeup and they do great nail varnishes, but I just don’t love this.
It has the exact texture and feel of a lip gloss. I thought it would be oilier, more nourishing, I don’t know… just something more like an actual lip oil. It basically feels and looks to me exactly like a clear lip gloss. It doesn’t seem to moisturise my lips at all! It doesn’t sink in or make them softer or anything, it just hangs around until it eventually sort of smears away.
I wear matte liquid lipsticks or bright lippies out of the house, so only really wanted the Barry M Berry Good lip oil to use as a nourishing product. I thought it’d be nice for around the house, or for popping on when I was going to medical appointments to look a little more polished (in place of lip balm). As it doesn’t moisturise my lips in the slightest, I just can’t see myself using this at all. I would never really wear a clear lip gloss, and that’s basically what this feels and looks like.
At £4.99, which is on the higher end of the price scale for a budget brand, I would expect better. I am quite surprised to have seen so many positive reviews. I can’t be the only one it does nothing for! If you’ve tried either of the Barry M lip oils, please leave me a comment and let me know what you thought. I’d be very interested!
You probably aren’t itching to buy it after that review, but if you do want to, you can find it for £4.99 in Superdrug stores or here.
