Hi guys! I’ve been testing out this little beauty for a while now, behind the scenes. Now I’ve given it a good road-test, I want to share it with you! This Serenity CBD lotion is by The Fay Farm, a small American company making handmade, organic body care.
I have kindly been given this product in order to review, through the Chronic Illness Bloggers network. Although the product was a gift, all opinions in this review remain my own and I am in no way influenced by the company. As you will already know, all opinions in my reviews are always honest, and entirely my own.
Who Are The Fay Farm?
The Fay Farm Ingredients
None of The Fay Farm’s products contain parabens, alcohol, mineral oil, or phthalates. They are all made with natural, organically-sourced ingredients. This is good, as often those of us with chronic pain or illnesses have allergies or sensitivities to chemicals etc. I personally don’t have sensitive skin, but if I can find a product that is more natural and gets the job done, then that’s great.
The Serenity CBD Lotion I am using contains hemp oil, grape seed oil, magnesium, jojoba and argan oil, chamomile, green tea and plenty of other goodies, plus 200mg of CBD oil.
What is CBD and is it Legal?
If you aren’t already aware, CBD (cannabidiol) is a compound found in cannabis. Before I go any further, please be aware that CBD is TOTALLY LEGAL (here in the UK and in the USA). It does not contain any THC, which is the compound in cannabis that actually gets people ‘high’.
Unlike THC, CBD does not and can not cause a high. CBD can be extremely useful as a medicine, as it is completely safe and has no real side effects. An extensive scientific review in 2011 concluded that CBD “does not interfere with several psychomotor and psychological functions.” The authors add that several studies suggest that CBD is “well tolerated and safe” even at high doses. CBD has been proven to work as an antiemetic (reduces nausea), anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-convulsant and an anti-psychotic!
CBD is non-psychoactive because it does not act on the same pathways as THC. These pathways, called CB1 receptors, are highly concentrated in the brain and are responsible for the mind-altering effects of THC. I just wanted everyone to be clear on that, as I know it can be confusing! I wouldn’t be using anything that had illegal ingredients in there.
How to Use Serenity CBD Lotion
The Serenity CBD Lotion was developed for those with anxiety, stress or nerve pain, seeking an alternative form of relief to pharmaceutical options. Natural herbs combined with cannabidiol oil are said to provide great relief. You can use this in a variety of ways. If you’re in a rush and on the go, just rub a little lotion under your chin, and you should feel some relief within minutes.
If you are able to, you can get the most relief from applying the lotion on your neck (around the lymph glands) and over your abdomen. Again, if you can, it’s also great to apply it to the bottom of your feet. All these areas get the ingredients into your system quickly and effectively. Within around 5 minutes you should start feeling some relief. I’ve tried it all ways, and definitely get the best effect from putting it on my stomach and bottom of my feet.
Did I Like It?
So! How did I find the Serenity CBD lotion? Well to start with, you get a generous 8oz (around 230ml). My next favourite thing is that it has a pump! I don’t know why I love stuff with pumps so much, but I just find it so much easier to use. It’s the definition of laziness, but if I can leave something on my bedside table and just press the pump, I’m more likely to use it than if I have to unscrew the top and shake the product out. Is that just me?! I assume pumps cost more than caps when packaging a product, so I can’t be the only one that loves them, otherwise companies wouldn’t use them I guess!
The scent is really pleasant and very relaxing. It smells very light, herbal and spa-like. The texture is thick and creamy, but rubs in really easily. It leaves my skin totally normal – softer but with no oily residue, which is perfect as I hate having oily, tacky skin after applying lotions!
My Pain Relief
I get different types of pain from my M.E and fibromyalgia, and I’ve tried this lotion for all different types of aches and pains. I can definitely say it helps my pain! Now, it doesn’t take the pain away – nothing really does. I’ve tried a huge amount of prescription medications, natural remedies, pain relief techniques etc and nothing will completely ease the pain. Fibromyalgia pain is chronic, stubborn and unfortunately almost impossible to completely control! BUT! This Serenity CBD lotion makes enough of a difference that I’ll definitely keep using it, alongside my other medications and distraction techniques. I’d say it dials down the pain level around 20%, which may not sound much but that’s actually pretty effective, given that even my strong painkillers don’t get rid of it.
The relief seems to kick in pretty quickly, within 5-10 minutes, and the effects seem to last a few hours. I reckon the combination of the CBD and calming herbs combine well with the fact that you’re taking the time to massage something into your skin. The act of massaging itself is quite relaxing, and it feels nice to be doing something proactive to deal with the pain. I quite often massage it into the specific area that hurts as well as my stomach and feet (eg my arm or shoulder). That is definitely the technique that works best for me!
My Overall Impression and 10% Discount!
Overall, I was really impressed with the Serenity CBD lotion! I’ve tried something fairly similar in the past which didn’t work for me, so I didn’t have the highest hopes. It was nice to be pleasantly surprised!
The Fay Farm are very kindly offering you 10% off – plus free shipping (only within the US). Just use the code katiecupcake when ordering to receive your discount. This isn’t an affiliate code, I won’t get anything from you using it! Shipping to the UK will be around $15.
The 2oz Serenity CBD lotion is $20 and the 8oz one that I have is $55. Although this might seem expensive, unfortunately good quality CBD oil is expensive to buy. I’ve been trying CBD products for a while now, including the edible oils. I initially tried the cheapest ones available, but soon realised the quality and concentration wasn’t enough to have any beneficial effect at all. With CBD oil, you really can’t afford to skimp on quality. There are a lot of CBD products out there, so if you plan to try them, I’d urge you to do as much research as possible so that you don’t waste your money!
