I recently received my July You Beauty box. You Beauty Discovery Box is a monthly subscription beauty box. You select two products yourself, from a shortlist. They then add in a few more surprise products. This may be accessories, hair/makeup/beauty products and a “healthy treat”. The box is just £6.95 including postage, which I think is fantastic value for money. It’s the cheapest box I’ve personally seen on the market, and the contents is always worth much more than the price of the box.
Here’s what I received this month:
Vichy Purete Thermale 3-in-1 Cleanser, and Idealia Life Serum
These were one of my choices for the box (you got both products as one choice). I have never tried Vichy skincare, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about it, so was interested to try these products.
The Purete Thermale Cleanser is a one step cleanser for sensitive skin. It is intended to cleanse skin, tone skin and remove eye makeup (which is why they call it 3-in-1). It is a light milky lotion with a mild, gentle scent. It is an effective product, but best used with a flannel or muslin cloth if you want to properly remove makeup.
I personally prefer to remove my makeup first, before properly cleansing. However, this would be handy for travelling, to avoid taking extra bottles and products. It is also good for people who prefer a quick, easy skincare routine.
The Idealia Life Serum is a face serum which is allergy tested and suitable for sensitive skin (although it is lightly fragranced). We got a tiny 3ml sample. This serum contains mica, which is meant to leave the skin with a subtle glow – this means it is best used during the day rather than at night. I like this serum but it’s hard to give any solid opinion from such a small sample (which I am not unhappy with, as it’s unsurprising given how cheap the box is).
Emma Hardie Protect & Prime
This little sachet contains 5ml of skin protecting cream with added primer, for a soft focus, luminous complexion. Although this looks like a small sample, it actually contains more than the Vichy tube of serum we received! Emma Hardie is an expensive skin brand, so this sample size is pretty good. The full size (50ml) product costs £45.
This is meant to be a lightweight cream with a decent SPF 30. I love that it has SPF, as I’ve realised recently that a lot of my favourite moisturisers don’t contain SPF, which isn’t good for the skin. It also claims to even out the complexion, blurring the appearance of fine lines and pores. Although it doesn’t really give clear instructions, I’m guessing this is to be used like a primer. Find it here.
St Tropez Gradual Tan – In Shower
You Beauty have done well to include this product – it is still really new, and it’s rare to get something that’s just been released in a beauty box. This is St Tropez’s new product – an in-shower gradual tanning product. You are meant to apply it in the shower (whilst your skin is still wet, but with the shower turned off). You wait for 3 minutes and then rinse it off. The idea is that it gradually builds up to a subtle tan, if you apply frequently.
I am not a self tanner, but I have seen reviews which say it’s ok but is a very subtle tan (not an obvious, deep tan). It seems like an easy idea, but some people have said that standing in a cold, wet shower for 3 minutes is a bit off-putting! As I said, I don’t self tan, so I haven’t used this product myself. Buy it here.
We also received a £2 off voucher to buy this product in Boots, which is pretty useful if you like it.
Love Your Skin Collagen Moisturising Gel
I’ve never heard of this brand before. This gel claims to be a multi-use product, perfect for the summer months. It is rich in collagen, aloe vera and evening primrose. You can use it on the hands and body, as a cooling after-sun gel or as a hydrating, non-setting face mask.
The clear gel has a pleasant, citrus scent. I really like using it as a hand moisturiser because it is so non-greasy. I hate hand creams which leave your hands greasy for ages afterwards. Overall, I like this and I’ll think I’ll use it during the summer. Find it here.
Nairns Muesli Breaks Oatcakes
The final item we received was this packet of oatcakes. They contain wholegrains to keep you feeling fuller for longer. They are also a natural source of sustainable energy. I haven’t eaten these yet – I think I will pop them in my bag for if I get hungry on the way to a hospital appointment or something. Hungry? Find them here.
Overall, I really enjoyed this month’s box again. I will use all of the products apart from the St Tropez and I’m sure I’ll find someone who wants it! I am surprised every month at how much we receive for the price of the box.
