Lip Monthly Subscription: September 2015 – Review and Unboxing (Plus Discount)!

I love it when my Lip Monthly bag appears in the post!  Firstly, it always comes in a cute gold bubble envelope.  Secondly, lip products are my favourite of all makeup, so it’s very exciting to keep discovering new ones!

If you haven’t read my previous Lip Monthly posts, this post gives you all the information you need about cost and how it all works.

The September bag contained the following:

Be a Bombshell Crayon in Shameless

_20151004_181023         2015-09-26_16.43.49

This is a glossy lip crayon in a shimmery raspberry shade (although the company themselves describe it as burgundy).  It isn’t the sort of finish I’d reach for these days, as I’m tending to wear more matte or satin finish lip colours, but this crayon surprised me by how much I liked it on the lips.  It’ll be a really nice subtle autumn (/fall) take, without going full on deep red.  I have heard of the company, as we received a gloss from them in the August bag.

Value: $16.

Jing Ai Velvet Shine Lip Jewel Crayon in Pink A Boo

I had never heard of Jing Ai before, but the packaging looked promising!  Housed in a cute white and baby pink box, the brand explain that their name (Jing Ai) translates as meaning ‘pure love’.

Their new Velvet Shine Lip Jewel formula claims to ‘give your lips a powerful dose of highly pigmented long-lasting color’. The formula is infused with 100% natural macadamia seed oil, shea butter and jojoba seed oil, and is paraben free.

I really like this product!  It is probably most similar in formula to Mac cremesheen.  It looks like it is going to be a pale baby pink, but actually comes out quite intense, bright pink on the lips.  I love it!  It is pretty long-wearing, and will probably last even longer over a lip liner.  The company is also cruelty-free and have a ‘leaping bunny’ certification.  I would really like to try some more of their products in the future.

Value: $22.

Noyah Natural Lip Care Gloss in Summertime Peach

Another brand I haven’t heard of before.  Their products are all-natural, synthetic free and not tested on animals.  Ingredients like Coconut Oil, Cocoa Butter and antioxidant rich Vitamin E help protect and soften the lips.

Although we received a tiny 1.7ml sample, when I checked out their website, the proper full-sized packaging looked really nice!  The full-sized lip gloss comes in packaging made with earth-friendly bamboo that not only looks pretty, but also means a reduction in the use of plastic in their packaging.  This is what it looks like:

Noyah full size

Value: $16 full-size (5.6ml) but we only received 1.7ml.

Jelly Pong Pong Highlighting Pencil in Bare Necessities

I am familiar with this brand as I’ve received some of their products in other subscription boxes before.  JPP claim that this Maracuja-powered crayon is ‘an emollient highlighter, eye shadow base, waterliner & concealer in one’. Instructions are to blend onto forehead, cheek bones, brow bone and along the nose to illuminate your features & disguise light blemishes and undereye circles; and glide onto your waterline to open up your eyes’.

The pencil is made with Maracuja & Rooibos Tea extracts (interesting!) and is free from parabens and phthalates.  It also claims to be hypo-allergenic… but I’m not sure about that one!  I used this pencil as an eyeshadow base as suggested and I really didn’t react well to it.  I don’t have sensitive skin and rarely react to products.  The pencil is quite hard and drags on your delicate eyelid skin.  My skin ended up red, puffy and quite sore to the touch for a few hours after removal.  Unfortunately I don’t think this is a product for me, so I will see if anyone else wants to give it a go!

Value: £14.95.

I’m fairly happy with this month’s bag.  Although my skin didn’t get on with the JPP highlighter, the Jing Ai and Be A Bombshell lip products more than made up for it, as I’ll get a lot of use from them.  The Noyah sample was very small, which is unusual as most of the other products I’ve received in the past have been full-sized.
