I’m back with another monthly Birchbox review and unboxing! I won’t bore those that already know with how Birchbox works, but if you want more details, read this post.
This month, Birchbox were collaborating with shoe brand French Sole. They design really pretty, patterned ballet flats. As a result, this month’s goodies came inside a special collaboration shoe bag! They were three designs available. I didn’t hear anything about it beforehand, so received a design at random, but have since seen that you had the chance to choose your design. There was a beautiful floral bag (definitely the one I would have chosen), a classic Paris blue & white striped bag with a red heart, and the bag I got below (aptly named ‘Pick n mix’). If I still went on nights out (which I don’t!) this would be perfect to bring a pair of flats in, and swap for your heels on the way home.
So, what was inside the bag? Here’s what we got this month:
Yes to Cucumbers – Hypoallergenic Facial Wipes
I was pleased to receive these as I’ve heard a lot on YouTube about the ‘Yes To’ range. These facial wipes are inspired by the cooling effect of cucumber slices over the eyes, and will also remove your makeup. I’m not going to open these facial wipes as they will dry out too quickly and I already have some open at the moment, but I’m looking forward to using them!

Mirenesse Secret Weapon iCurl 24Hr Mascara
Mirenesse are a brand I’ve heard quite a bit about lately. I received one of their Mattfinity liquid lipsticks in my recent Love Me Beauty box. This mascara is quite a unique shape and is one of those which use tubing technology, so that you can remove it easily just with warm water. It is a curling mascara which claims to last all day without smudging, clumping or flaking (unlike the Better Than Sex mascara….)!
The wand is quite slim and very curved. I quite like the mascara – funnily enough although it is a curling mascara, it is more lengthening than curling for me. It leaves my lashes very long and separated but I would like a little more volume. I will definitely use this up (and the full-sized one I also won elsewhere) but if I’m going out, I might add a top layer of a volumising mascara to up the oomph!

Balance Me – Super Moisturising Body Wash
Balance Me are one of those brands that I only ever seem to see in beauty boxes! They are a natural brand, made in the UK. They use 99% natural ingredients, with no parabens, sulphates, artificial fragrances and other ‘baddies’! This is a clear gel moisturising body wash with a very spa-like scent. This body wash uses naturally active ingredients like yarrow and patchouli, plus shea butter to soften, hydrate and cleanse the skin.
I really like this body wash and it is something my husband could also use as it’s a pretty unisex scent. It is also quite a generous size for a beauty box, at 100ml.

STYLondon Temporary Tattoos
These metallic temporary tattoos are an extra beauty bonus, in addition to the usual products. Birchbox say temporary tattoos are “the newest way to accessorise, whatever your age. They add a stylish twist to your favourite LBD…” These aren’t totally my style (being more into real tattoos!) but I would definitely give these a go. They would be perfect for festival goers, or somewhere sunny abroad! They are a bit of fun and nice to see something different included in the box.
The best thing is, if these really aren’t your thing, they can be applied to the nails instead, for a golden manicure. This is definitely more up my street!
[Edited to Add: I have since used this in this manicure, and my more recent Lottie London ‘Go On’ manicure! I really like using small amounts of the tattoo in a nail look!]
English Laundry – No.7 For Her (Perfume)
I’m not a huge fan of getting fragrance samples in beauty boxes – perfume is such an individual thing and there will never be a scent that everyone receiving the box likes, but I suppose that is the gamble you take with a subscription box.
This sample is apparently tweaked from the original No.7 blend for men. It is described as bright, fruity, flirty and fun with hints of musk. Now I’m not a big fan of anything with musk in it – it always just reminds me of using Body Shop Musk body spray when I was a tween! It always smells a bit old and musty to me – a sort of powdery scent. I won’t be using this perfume as it’s not to my taste but I’m sure I can find someone who will like it.

Beauty Protector Protect and Oil
I think this was my stand out product for this box. I NEVER thought I would be saying that about a hair oil! Hair oil is something I tried once and then avoided like the plague as it left my very straight hair limp and greasy-looking. I only tried this one so that I could review it for this post, otherwise I would have passed it straight on. And thank god I did, because I love it! We received two bottles of this lightweight hair oil, which leaves your hair shiny whilst protecting against UV rays and heat damage. They are quite small but as you use such a tiny amount of the oil, they should last a long time.
I simply put about 3 small drops of this thick oil into my palms and rub them together, then run them through the lengths and ends (not roots) of my hair. A little goes a long way, and once dried, my hair looks lovely and feels SO silky! The first time I used it, my mum asked if I’d had a hair cut, but it was just the oil! Also, it smells gorgeous – like toffee or caramel, yum! I would definitely recommend this, even to those like me who were scared of using hair oil. As long as you don’t use too much, it won’t leave your hair limp or greasy, just silky soft. I would definitely consider purchasing this once the samples run out.

Overall, this was a great box and I really enjoyed the wide range of products. The best part was finding the hair oil, which I would never previously have considered using! I will definitely be keeping the pretty box to store things in.
