Hi everyone – welcome to my second review of the You Beauty monthly subscription box. I won’t repeat what I said in my March post too much, but for anyone who hasn’t read it, You Beauty Discovery Box is a monthly subscription beauty box. You select two products yourself, from a shortlist. They then add in a few more surprise products. This may be accessories, hair/makeup/beauty products and a “healthy treat”. The box is just £6.95 including postage, which I think is fantastic value for money. It’s the cheapest box I’ve seen on the market.
So without further ado, here is what I got in my April box!
My two pre-chosen products:
I pre-selected two products for my box, from a list of around 10 products, which changes each month. I chose according to what I wanted or needed, but as I mentioned last time, you could easily just select the highest value products, if you wanted the best value for money.
I chose the two pictured products above – a Tisserand “sweet dreams” bath oil, and a Spa To You natural konjac sponge.
The bath oil was a bit of a no-brainer really, as I have a lot of baths and love having something nice to put in them. It was also described as helping with sleep, which attracted me as when I’m in pain, I have a lot of problems getting to sleep.
The oil contains lavender, chamomile and ylang ylang. I’m not keen on the smell of lavender, but luckily it is quite mild – it just smells relaxing and a bit “spa-like”. You know that lovely smell spas have? Ahhhh…. I haven’t used it yet but I let my husband try it in his bath last night and he enjoyed it! I believe the oil retails at around £7 for 210ml, although we only received 20ml. It seems quite concentrated though, so should last for a few baths.
I would probably not purchase this again, but only because I like to try lots of different bath products.
My second choice was the natural konjac sponge. This intrigued me as I had never heard of them before. It is made from 100% pure “konjac dietary fibre” – I had to google this as it wasn’t really explained, but apparently it is some sort of Asian plant! It is described as extremely gentle, even suitable for use on new-born babies (of which I have none…!) It is meant to be good for deep cleansing and exfoliating, whilst also claiming to hydrate and moisturise the skin.
The only downside to the sponge is that when researching it, I found it you should replace it every 2-3 weeks! At a full price of £7.99, I personally think this is quite expensive. I will reserve judgment for when I have tried it and let you know if it’s worth the money! There is a slightly cheaper one on Amazon with free delivery, if I do love it. I must say though, as the sponge is worth more than I paid for the entire beauty box, again I think this box is excellent value for money.
My additional surprise products:
April’s extra treats were a 5ml sachet of Yours Truly Organics “Fix me! Repairing Serum”, and a 15g sachet of Linwoods Milled Organic Flaxseed Cocoa & Berries.
I already have a couple of the Linwoods flaxseed blends and enjoy them, so I was pleased to receive one I hadn’t tried. It looks like it would be lovely on porridge. The blurb suggests you can also add it to yogurt, cereal or use it in baking!
I hadn’t heard of Yours Truly Organics before, so I was glad to be exposed to a new organic beauty brand. I am trialling a new serum at the moment (review coming soon!) so I have yet to try this but will definitely use it in the future, as I use serum twice daily as part of my skincare routine. At £28 for 30ml, we received around £4.60 worth of serum in our sample, so again, I commend the value for money of this beauty box! Strangely I have found it cheaper on Amazon than on the Yours Truly site itself… This is probably something I am unlikely to purchase in full as it is a little too expensive for me, but I will let you know how it is.
For the second month running, well done to You Beauty for another fab box. Now just to wait another month for the next one…!
