OohArr Face Masks // Review!

Hey guys I hope you’re all well?  I don’t talk much about face masks on this blog, which is strange really as I actually use one about once a week!  If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen me post mask-Monday pictures with various different ones I’ve tried.  And if you don’t… pop along and follow me! 🙂

Face masks are something I’m not at all brand loyal with.  Although I have certain skincare brands I love and certain ones I know don’t work for me, when it comes to face masks I will try them all.  I like trying different brands, different types (such as sheet masks etc) and ones which claim to have different benefits – from smoothing to brightening or firming.  Today I’m sharing OohArr face masks with you, and showing you them all in action!

OohArr kindly sent me three face masks to try (and I then got another two in my March You Beauty Box) – although I was given these products for free, as always all opinions are honest and my own.  I will never tell you I like a product, or that it works well, if it doesn’t! Continue reading

Hydrotherapy Treatment for ME Fibromyalgia Chronic Pain

MY HYDROTHERAPY TREATMENT // PART 4 // CHRONIC ILLNESS POST

Hey guys, I’m back with another installment in the tales of my hydrotherapy treatment!  If you haven’t read my previous posts, you can find them here: Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3.

Hydrotherapy Treatment for ME Fibromyalgia

After my first hydrotherapy session, I definitely experienced some side effects.  For the rest of the day of my first session, I actually felt pretty good.  I had a bit of energy and the pain wasn’t too bad – I feel like I was probably running on adrenaline.  I expected to wake up feeling awful the next day, but I didn’t.  Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t feel well, but I felt my usual level of unwell.  It was the day after that (so 2 days after the hydro) that the post-exertational malaise kicked in… Continue reading

Katie Cupcake Life With ME - One Year Blog Anniversary

Happy Easter And My One Year Blog-iversary!

Hey guys

Just popping in to wish you all a very happy Easter!  I’m not actually religious, but my family from elsewhere in the country come to stay in Leeds, so I always go home to my Mum’s and spend some time with them.  Whether you celebrate Easter or not, I hope you have a nice, relaxing few days (hopefully not at work?) and manage to eat at least one chocolate egg!

For my fellow spoonie readers, I really hope your body allows you a few pain-free days to enjoy yourself (we can wish, right?)

I also realised, it’s one year today since I started my blog!  You can find my first ever blog post here.  This is a really proud moment for me, as I started my blog not long after a big M.E crash which left me struggling to do even the basics of washing, dressing and feeding myself.  I was on long-term sick leave, but struggling to adjust mentally to such a big change in my health.

Katie Cupcake Life With ME - One Year Blog Anniversary

Happy Blog-iversary to me!

I started the blog as a way to keep my mind focused and healthy and to try and use my chronic illness experiences to help others if possible.  My obsession with makeup couldn’t be held back either, so it morphed into what it is today – a beauty and chronic illness blog!  A strange mixture, but I am really happy with my blog now, and feel it really represents my personality.

Thank you SO much to those of you who have kept reading along the way, and I really hope you stick with me for the rest of my journey.  Everyone that reads, likes or shares my posts, and leaves comments – it truly means the world to me!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Katie xx

Lush Leeds Spa Tales of Bath Launch

The Magical World of Lush Leeds Spa // ‘Tales of Bath’ Launch!

Hi guys I will warn you, this is going to be a pretty photo-heavy blog post… everything at Lush just looked so pretty and colourful, I ended up taking a ton of pictures!  I was lucky enough to be invited to Lush Leeds for the launch of their new spa treatment, ‘Tales of Bath’.  Now I knew about the Lush spa, but I’ve never had a treatment so I was really excited to take a peek and see what it’s like down there (if you don’t already know, it’s below the Commercial Street Lush shop floor).

We were greeted by all the lovely Lush staff (seriously, it must be a requirement of employment at Lush to be a super-lovely, sweet person!)  Two of the girls told us all about how the spa is decorated and the atmosphere they were aiming for, and also about the new treatment, ‘Tales of Bath’.  Whilst telling us about it, they used dry ice in a metal kettle to scent the air – I think this is the same scent used in one of the treatments.  There was also a live singer, which was cool as it really added to the atmosphere. Makeup Revolution Fortune Favours The Brave Palette Review and Swatches

Makeup Revolution x British Beauty Blogger // Fortune Favours The Brave Palette!

Hey guys!  I recently got hold of the brand new Makeup Revolution x British Beauty Blogger Fortune Favours The Brave eyeshadow palette!  Lots of people have been asking for swatches, so I wanted to share my initial thoughts with you.  If you haven’t already heard about it (where have you been?! Lol) Makeup Revolution teamed up with British Beauty Blogger to create a gorgeous 30 pan eyeshadow palette.  BBB is one of the most popular, long-standing beauty bloggers around so I knew she would produce something great.  You can find out a bit more about her creative process here.

Packaging

The thing that stands out most is the packaging.  MUR usually have glossy, black packaging but the Fortune Favours The Brave palette is much prettier.  It has secondary packaging, showing all the eyeshadow colours on the back.

Glamour, Great Gatsby and Poker with Ladbrokes!

Hey guys Sorry it’s been a little quiet on here recently, I’m struggling with my chronic illness at the moment and haven’t had much spare energy to keep blog posts as regular as I’d like! On Saturday night, I was lucky enough to be invited to a really fun Leeds bloggers event at the Hilton Doubletree Hotel – Hold Em 4 Charity, hosted by Ladbrokes Poker.  The idea of the night was that a load of local bloggers got together to learn and play Texas Hold’em poker, with the winner getting to choose a charity to donate £500 to!  The theme was Great Gatsby and these guys knew how to bring the glamour!  All the bloggers looked beautiful in their long gowns, sequins and suits.

We were in a room backing onto the lovely Sky Bar on floor 13 of the Doubletree, in Leeds city centre.  It was all set up with poker tables, Great Gatsby signs and lots of atmospheric red lighting!  We were greeted with champagne and got chance to have a bit of a chat, before being led to our tables.  There were around 8 of us per table, with our own croupier.  He gave us a brief overview of how the game works and then it was straight in with our chips (we weren’t playing for real money, thank god!)

I have to say, I wasn’t a natural…!! Haha.  I felt like I should have maybe read up on how it works before the event, as I had quite a few questions and wasn’t totally sure what I was doing.  Luckily the girl next to me knew how to play, so she answered all my questions.  Although I lost my chips pretty quickly, I really enjoyed the experience and the chance to get to know other local bloggers.  There were so many people there whose blogs I read and Twitter accounts I follow – it was really fun putting faces to all the names!

In the break between the two halves, the most amazing magician came round and performed tricks to small groups of us.  He was so good!  I wrote my name on a card, and it somehow managed to be in a sealed envelope, inside his zipped wallet… within about 10 seconds!  He also turned a drawing of a lolly into an actual lollipop for Bryony and turned a stack of cards into a clear, perspex block on another girl’s palm.  We were all watching really closely and still have no idea how he did it!  If you’re looking for a talented magician for anything, you can find him here.

I spent a lot of the evening talking to the lovely Tina from Tea is for Tina, whose blog you can find here.  Definitely pop along and have a read, as she’s an absolute sweetheart!  Also a huge well done to the winner of the tournament, Bryony from Breakfast at Bryonys – she had never played before and managed to smash it (that’s her below, with all her chips)!

Finally, a massive thank you to Ladbrokes Poker for such a fun evening, and the fab Jennie at Life Styled by Jennie for all her efforts in organising the event.  And for the awesome surprise goodie bag below, I felt very spoiled!  You can see a video for the event here! Hold Em 4 Charity Leeds

Younique Products - Are They Any Good

Love It, Hate It… But Is It Any Good?!

Hey guys! I’m going to be talking about a product from a brand I never thought I would try… and before I tell you which brand it is, promise me you’ll stick around long enough to read to the end?  Thanks, it’s a deal!  The brand I’m talking about is the often controversial Younique! Now, I am not a Younique presenter and have nothing to do with the brand – in fact this is the first product I have actually tried of theirs.  So please don’t assume I’m trying to sell you anything, because I’m not!

The reason I wanted to review a Younique product was because I have seen the brand provoke very strong reactions in all of the makeup groups I am part of on Facebook.  So many people despise the brand, feel their products are over-priced, dislike the way they sell and hate being bombarded with messages from presenters, either wanting to sell products, or make you part of their team.
